I have 430.000 data in excel file. i import the file into STATA. The dataset is all about banks States for 12 years. i need to collect 4-5 banks from each state for each year. is there any way of doing it? previously i picked randomly(only 1 bank for each states and year) and now i see get different results.

you can try using Power Pivot in excel which can do all the sorting and cross tabulation for you.
Though it is not fully clear what you are expecting and what are the other criteria but if you follow the given excel function in the added excel pic (data....filter) then select your expected states and required banks from those state....inbox me if you need more help.
