How does one cite a document (not published) provided by an expert within the industry? The information in the document can be classified as best practice, and there exists little to no similar information in the current literature.
Is this recommended and how can such information be cited in the Harvard citation style?
As for industry standards, Im using Mendeley to cite my references and am not sure whether to use the report or generic citation type for standards?

Excellent question. Fundamentally, the purpose of citations/references is to allow a reader to understand the source material that was used for assembling your manuscript.
Industry standards are by definition published and easily accessible by members of the public (albeit usually with a membership/fee). In your case, given the material is unpublished and presumably not easily accessible by members of the general public, I would suggest it should appear as an in-text citation, but not formally listed in the references. This would be akin to how a personal communication appears in the Harvard Style.
I've attached a guide assembled by the University of Sydney which provides some useful examples of when certain sources are shown as in-text citations, but not necessarily added to the reference list.
