I want to perform a pump-probe experiment with a ps probe light. so, what kind of camera I should buy? i have noticed that some ccd chip say that global shutter but with a progressive readout manner. does it mean that all pixels are exposured at the same time (global shutter or full frame ) but then the electronical signal are read out progressively? does this parameter affect the use of camera in a pump-probe experiment? thanks !
I think the answer to that question is that you need to be more specific about the type of experiment you would like to conduct. As far as I know, in a ps pump-probe experiment you usually use a CMOS to image you experiment, not to get an actual signal, in which case I would use a photodiode instead. In this case the limiting factors are the refreshing rate of the CMOS and its damage threshold, as ps pulses usually have a pretty high power density.
In time resolved x-ray microscopy, both modes are known. Imaging with a photodiode (e.g. avalanche diode capable of single photon counting), the technique to produce images is to combine stroboscopic measurements on periodic processes and scanning for spatial resolution.
For "single shot" or parallel data acquisition (simultaneous exposure) cameras are being used. I think ANDOR is one of the brands used there.
