Flexibility is a rather ambiguous concept and given that the ligand chosen for investigation involves quite rigid anthracene and pyridinium components, the degree of "flexibility" that it may have needs to be clearly defined and its possible effect on the structure of its complexes explained.
Flexibility of a molecule depends on the number of rotate able bonds or single bonds. If a molecule contain more single bonds, it can give more number of confirmations and, therefore, more flexible.

The flexibility depends on the number of double or triple bonds present in the molecule and also the spacer group between two donor atoms. The metal ion also plays an important role since the preferred geometry depends on the type of metal ion used. So there can not be a uniform criterion for all type of complexes.
