I have been searching for the calculation of carbonyl and hydroxyl index of styrene based polymers from its FTIR results, but i couldn't find a supportive literature. Kindly help me out to find a suitable material for the calculation of carbonyl and hydroxyl index.

I think that FTIR is not an accurate method for evaluation of concentration of OH or C=O groups - because if these groups participate in formation of H-bonds - the coefficients of extinction (COE) will substantially depend on the H-bonds strength.
In case of carbonyl groups (even w/o H-bonding) their COE will strongly depend on the structure of surrounding groups i.e., will they be el-donors or el-acceptors.

The good method to calculate the carbonyl index and hydroxyl is end group analysis by titration the polymers solution with base so FTIR not good idea for this.
Dear all, the determination of carbonyl groups associated with aldehydes and ketones is possible via Brady reagent : dintrophenylhydrazine. The same for OH groups can be titrated by conventional chemical titration. My Regards
