When trying to follow researchers who cited or read my publications I repeatedly get this feedback: "An error occurred. Try again." I only succeed a few occasions. Can anyone assist? Thank you.
There is a limit to follow researchers according to your followers. Another cause for this may be the bad internet connection (You can try this in another time).
There is a limit to the number of people you can follow. I cannot tell you what that limit is, because one day I decided to follow a lot of people; the software preventing one from following too many was down that day and I ended up following many more than the limit and have never been able to follow anyone else since. (I cannot decide among those I did decide to follow, who to drop; it would have to be many.)
I can tell you that the number of people you follow is very modest (313) and you probably should be able to follow more.
You should be able to use the following link, below, to "give feedback" and thus contact RG administration (responses do come) (link gotten to via Help Center at the bottom of some pages, then click Q and A, then scroll to the bottom and click "Give Us Feedback"):
Please allow me to share with you the feedback I got from the Researchgate community support service:
Dear Amaral Chibeba,
Thanks for getting in touch. We limit the number of people you can follow to prevent members from spamming other members with systematic followings. This is for both security and technical reasons, and cannot be lifted for an individual researcher. The limit is not fixed, and depends on the number of researchers following you. If you have reached this limit and would like to follow more researchers, you’ll have to unfollow some first. Editing the list of researchers you follow leads to a more tailored Home Feed filled with content relevant to your interests and field of research. For more information on how to unfollow researchers, see: https://explore.researchgate.net/display/support/Following+and+Recommending
Then instead of 'An error occurred. Try again' it can be something like 'Sorry. You have crossed the limit'. Thanks for sharing the reply from RG Support.
I fully agree with you. The automatic feedback needs improvement. "An error occurred" combined with "Please, try again" don't seem appropriate to mean one has reached the limit of researchers to follow.
