Context: VCS – Verra Module, combined BL – UP and BL – PEAT

Hi, I'm relatively new to the carbon emission calculation topic. Currently, I'm in the progress of quantifying baseline emissions from the Avoiding Unplanned Deforestation (AUD) project activity under the REDD Methodology Framework (VM0007). About 25% of our AOI was a peatland, and based on the module, peat emissions should be calculated separately using module BL - PEAT. I have already developed the future land-use projection in the baseline scenario case as an input to quantify the emission. Several things were confusing me in the peatland case:

  • Does the emission from degraded peatland (peat forest to non-forest) only be obtained by multiplying the area of degraded peatland (ha) and Emission factor (tCO2/ha/y)? (disregard CH4 and peat burning)
  • What does the role of peat stratification? to stratify the emission factor? Whereas using the default emission factor (e.g., from IPCC supplement 2013) is acceptable.
  • Thank you very much.
