Economic structure of some developed countries are changing very slowly while those changes in developing countries are rapid. Does the rate of change over time signals the sustainability of development?
Economic structure is important, but from a nominal or monetary perspective, it is also pertinent to look at the institutional structure of the balance of payments account.
Perhaps, a more interesting approach to this question would be to perform a regression analysis in which you aim to explain sustainable development (dependent variable) with characteristics of the changes in economic structure (independent variables) for several cities or regions. Thus, there is a wide literature on sustainable development metrics. Good luck with your research !
