I am working on 1D MT data and by the use of PSO method, I wanted to do inversion of the MT data. I have gone through the code and concepts on PSO but I am confused that how one should apply PSO in MT data. If anyone knows about the parameters and inversion please guide me. Thank you
I know a bit about MT data, enough to scratch my head over your question. A particle swarm optimization method sounds like high powered math, to apply to 1D MT data, which may not exist, because to interpret MT data one needs control from geology and an understanding of the multi-dimensional effects related to possible parameter variation.

Basically MT 1D model consists of parameters, i.e. resistivity and thickness of the layers. The number of layers (NL) is usually fixed, such that the number of parameters (NP = 2NL -1) is also fixed. In PSO a group of models constitutes a "swarm" or simply a population of models initiated randomly within the model space. The latter is defined a priori by defining the interval of minimum and maximum values of each model parameters. The swarm moves within the model space following the PSO algorithm, i.e. iterative model parameters modification. Usually the population converges to almost homogenous (similar) models that fit the observed (or synthetic) data within a few iterations.
