I have the fundamental knowledge on optimization, but I wonder how to apply the optimization algorithm in signal processing such as filtering. For example, how to use optimization algorithm to optimize the performance of filter. May I know what kind of objective (fitness) function should I use ?
It depends on what you mean by the "performance" of the filter, what is the intended outcome. For example if you want to do an fft then something like how sharp are the peaks can be a fitness function. You can use some statistical measures (standard deviation maybe) to quantify it. But then there are lots of filters for a lot of purpose.
Dear David Sziroczak , actually I plan to implement the filter like discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and Shot time Fourier transform (STFT). Is that any suggestion for the fitness function ? Thank you
Well not really, the question is what are you going to use as the result, and how do you determine if the results are good or bad for your purpose after the filtering.
