The maximum power point tracking is accomplished by measuring the I-V curve and then getting its global maximum whatever the connection is as at the end effect you have a power source with two terminals and you measure and observe it IV curve under the varied illumination condition.

In this case you use one load and one DCLDC converter which acts as an impedance transformer to match the load with the pv generator.

The major issue here is that you may have multiple maxima and you want to track the the highest one.

Since array currents add linearly but array voltages add logarithmically, you will get better performance if you connect your panels in parallel.

As you considering partial shading conditions in your system. P&O method is not appropriate for extracting the maximum power if you are intending to use only one converter, because it will converge to a local maximum and maybe accidentally to the global maximum, so for one converter, it is preferable to use a searching algorithm to get the maximum power like particle swarm optimization or simulated annealing algorithm, etc. However, you can use the P&O method but with two converters one for each module (separately), which is known by distributed MPPT.
