Neighbourhood and community are frequently overused catchphrases that are used synonymously. Sometimes they are used as analysis unit but not defined properly. There have been views that neighbourhoods and / or communities are a fundamental “building blocks” of sustainable city. But how to recognise, for example, that a community really exists? For a start, it seems to me that neighbourhood could be more related to spatial structure - the physical part of the urban environment. Community, on the other hand, could be more like a social concept. Am I in the right track?

I am very interested about your opinions in different approaches addressing this issue. Thanks for advance!
