You need a reference manager that can insert citations into your document and format them in the correct style. You can use Zotero for free, and it integrates with Word, Libre Office and Google Docs (https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_integration). I use it with Libre Office and have no complaints.
You need to use a software to manage and organize your references. I found Mendeley quite user-friendly, and easy to learn and use. It can be downloaded for free and is good for beginners.
As many have mentioned, including most recently by Sadia Noureen , you might use a reference management software but I always have to be careful and check the author instructions because sometimes those software packages have the wrong information and I send the manuscript to the journal and they tell me to change it and I am very embarrassed after that.
