Among the factors that influence in the ovulation there may be several such as estrogen, progesterone, hormones from adenohypophysis: FSH,LH and PRL. However also influence:
Stress
Tiredness or lack of sleep
Disease
significant fluctuations in weight (gain weight or lose weight)
Very Intense practice of certain sports
Improper feeding
Use of foods with excess food additives
Drugs in all their variations and more when their are used in discriminated form
For ovulation to be successful, the ovum must be supported by the corona radiata and cumulus oophorous granulosa cells. The latter undergo a period of proliferation and mucification known as cumulus expansion. Mucification is the secretion of a hyaluronic acid-rich cocktail that disperses and gathers the cumulus cell network in a sticky matrix around the ovum. This network stays with the ovum after ovulation and has been shown to be necessary for fertilization. An increase in cumulus cell number causes a concomitant increase in antrum fluid volume that can swell the follicle to over 20 mm in diameter. It forms a pronounced bulge at the surface of the ovary called the blister.....the blister ruptures under the influence of LH hormone lateron and results in ovulation.
In addition to all factors listed before my comments, I would like here to share something from my experience ...like
Thick zona pellucida ...which will make a thick border to prevent penetration of sperms and solution here only assisted hatching ..
another factor may is Empty follicle syndrome which usually appear as a normal folicle in the U/s scanning but during aspiration no follicle their ..solution only ICSI protocol can help.
Antisperm antibodies in the level of sona pellucida can prevent acrosome reaction and finally penetration and fertilization ..solution ICSI
