In hydrogel (contain chitosan and polymethacryclic acid [PMAA]), my result shows smaller in hydrodynamic diameter in size at very acidic or basic medium dispersion (it supposed bigger in hydrodymic diameter since maximum ionization between chitosan and PMAA but I got smaller). Based on my reading it is due to the shielding effect. Can anyone explain to me how the shielding effect occurs in the hydrogel. Based on definition it related to electron and nucleus. I difficult to relate it with my hydrogel. Thank you for your concern.
