One if its figures ( fig 2) has the measurements of air temperature and litter throughout the year. This way you can compare them and make some assumptions.
Temperature of the ground varies with season and atmosphere conditions. During the summers the temperature of the surface of earth is 4 to 5 degrees higher than the air temperature at the recording height. During the winters it is lower by 4 degree than the air temperature thus causing the ground frost and It may vary due to various other factors like moisture in the littre and stages of the decomposition. Thus it us better to record the temperature of the study area by using infrared thermometers which provide the instant value of the temperature.
