Mind mapping is a beneficial learning tool. Mind Maps provide subject overviews succinctly, making even the most complex topic easy to understand and interesting.

we know that learning is a central human activity and has
important implications for school, career, and life. When you some learn, you simply can’t absor everything in your brain. Some information will be lost. The quality of thinking, in turn, is determined by the quality of the key questions you ask and attempt to answer as you’re learning. When you’re not asking key questions, your mind wanders, your thoughts scatter, and you can’t identify key concepts essential to your understanding of the subject material.
Because of that mind mapping is a useful effective way of getting information and its uses. Mind mapping is a creative and logical means of note-taking and note-making that literally "maps out" your ideas.

i use mindmdaps (ithoughtsx on apple platform) almost exclusively for writing, as an outlining tool which i can then export as opml, doc rtf, et cet. i find it very useful for thinking out loud in a visual way, allowing me to play with order, relationships, links.
i can see how it might thus be very useful in a classroom for walking a class through the plot of a novel; or the historical sequence of a process or event; or allowing them to walk themselves through whatever the class is discussing ( from a chemical equation or evolutionary process) and demonstrating the flexibility of the creative process.
