I'm suspecting that the disjunctions at both sides of the Mississippi (and may be Río Bravo) lowest bassin are due to more than one, not synchronic event of marine transgression. Can somebody help me eventually suggesting literature and/or maps?
There were many marine transgressions, regressions, and standstills during the Pleistocene and Holocene along the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Attached is a chart that we used in one of our reports, along with citations. There have been some refinements to these since that time, but much of it still is relevant. Below is a citation and link to a recent work that talks about marine transgressions and regressions in the area.
Some of these transgressions were so rapid that the wave action did not truncate natural levees and beach ridges, others were so gradual that these features did not survive.
