I do. The main reason is to reach more colleagues. The people present on the two networks are not perfectly overlapping, though it is not clear how preferences go to each other (e.g., if one is more popular among engineering people and the other among the humanities). A strong point of ResearchGate is the level of interaction provided by the Q&A forum, while Academia allows for more information about one's own publications and a greater flexibility (e.g., to provide links).

I also do. The first was the Academia.edu introduced Google in search of some research material and I registered as a member. In the similar manner I was introduced to ResearchGate. To find out recently published material to communicate with renowned scholars was attraction of the Academia.edu, while ResearchGate in addition provide space to freely express my self on a topic of my choice.
I equally do. I visit ResearchGate more often than academia.edu because of the exposure i get either asking questions about topics of interest or even reading through other people's answers which expand my intellectual base about many issues including those not directly related to my field. I was attracted to Academia.edu by one of my students and I felt then, if my student (who is still in school now) could be on this site, I'll also check it out.
I do have an account on both. Everything depends on what you do! Having multiple social network / educational network accounts is useless sans devotion!
In fact, I started first in academia.edu where I have uploaded more than 100 papers and articles, most of them of my authorship. However, I have added papers that I like and find interesting of other colleages and scholars that I dont know in person many of them. I still have much to learn how to use in a better way ResearchGate and Academia. I t will be great to have more exchange and collaboration between ResearchGate and Academia.edu.
