We are following a plasmid transfer from the E. coli FM433 pKM101 donor strain to the WL400 recipient strain by conjugation (pKM101 carries a T4SS).
We monitor the conjugation during 1 to 3 hours.
But I read somewhere that conjugation could take about 100 min. In that case we could stop the experiments after 2h.
So I wonder if anyone knows how long it usually takes in E. coli to make conjugation?
The transfer of genetic material can take several minutes or more (up to several hours).

The amount of chromosomal DNA that is transferred depends on how long the two conjugating bacteria remain in contact. In common laboratory strains of E. coli the transfer of the entire bacterial chromosome takes about 100 minutes.
