Dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) is normally used in organic oxidation reaction. It can also oxidize ferrous salt to ferric. What is the stoichiometry of this oxidation reaction ?
Thanks for your answers. I took ferrous sulfate in 10 ml water. The green color of the solution suddenly changed to brown when I added 35 ml of DMSO. This DSMO water ratio was a needed condition of the reaction. Seeing the change in color of the solution from greenish to brownish it was sure that ferrous salt was oxidized to ferric instantly. In literature, I have found about the oxidation process of ferrous salt by DMSO. However, I have not got the possible reaction stoichiometry of this oxidation reaction.
