Hello, I'm simulating a metamaterial structure in FSS model with Floquet modes. But I don't know how to give a 45 degree polarization wave. The help file says: The fundamental Floquet modes TE(0,0) and TM(0,0) are linearly polarized plane waves. Does it mean there will be a 45 degree polarization wave when TE(0,0) and TM(0,0) simultaneously impinge on the surface???
I don't know but you are probably right. Try it with an empty (or nearly empty)structure and monitor the fields to see if they are in the right direction. It shouldn't take long.
if you use the frequency domain solver, you can define a linear-polarized wave with polarization angle equals to 45 degrees by setting the scan angle in boundaries setting (setting the value of phi equals to 45 or 135 degrees). I agree with Malcolm White. You can try it with an empty (or nearly empty)structure and monitor the fields to see if they are in the right direction.
you can use planewave source ,so you can define polarized wave with desired angle .

In CST, you can set the slant angle while plotting the pattern. It depends on assignment of angle that you are taking either in right or left (+ or -). I do agree with Prof. White, try with an empty structure.

Firstly, you should make sense about the difference between polarization angle (be labelled in CST "phi") and the incident angle ( be labelled in CST "theta"). When we talk about "incident angle", It means the TE and TM modes. They are different.
In CST, when you want to see your structure working with various polarization angles, you should change the value of "phi" from 0 to 90 degree. It is easy.
When you want to investigate the influence of incident angle, you change the value of "theta". However, to do that for both TE and TM modes, you have to generate two ports, not waveguide port. The steps are clearly exhibited bellow:
1. Simulation -> Boundaries->Floquet boundaries. Number of floquet modes is two. Mode 1 is TE and mode 2 is TM. You can check in "Detail"
2. Home-> simulation. Source type is "Z_max" and Mode is "All"
3. Run simulation.
4. Check the results of TE and TM in 1D S-parameters.

- In CST you will find two type of angles :
1. Theta : is angle of incidence i.e. angle at which the plane wave is impinged on the structure surface.
2. Phi : is the angle of polarization.
- By default you can find Theta and Phi listed in the parameter list (parameter list is usually to the left of the message window at the bottom).
- You can follow the following steps to sweep Phi :
Frequency solver --> Parametric sweep --> in the list of the variables you will find Phi. Define the required fields and you will be good to go.
- To set Phi specifically at 45 degree :
Go to Simulation tab --> Boundary conditions --> A window will pop. go the the Phase shift/scan angles tab --> Define Phi=45.

theta and phi determine incident wave propagation direction (k_vector) in which, for TM mode magnetic field is transverse to the port plane and for TE mode electric field is transverse to port plane and the magnetic field has normal component. each one of these modes are defined by mode number 1 and 2.

I'm working on the similar topic and yes I used the 45 degree, 90 degree and 135 degree excitations in CST.
You can just change the polarization angle phi in the parameter list to get desired incident polarization angle.
