There are versions of a proverb where a lie can spread so much faster than the truth. Social media makes the lie go even faster, but the truth may not even get out the door.

Unfortunately, in my experience, I have seen people being too easily manipulated. Also, people often believe what they want to believe, regardless of reason. Perceived grievances may be exploited.
