ITAs are advanced adult English Language Learners. Validation of their fund of knowledge may have positive impact in their language learning. Is it really happening?
I can attest to their validation as an international student. The ITAs help the other international students understand the curriculum content when the US instructors fall short of explaining it in terms that they can understand. They also help to bring a diversification to the curriculum content that sometimes the US instructors cannot do due to their limited exposure to other cultures. The attached highlights some of the issues international students face in the US higher education system that validates the ITAs contribution. I hope this was helpful for you.
Best regards,
Debra
