I would love to do my research on canopy in my region but lacks all forms of infrastucture help such as tree walkways, tower crane and place to train for SRT. So, at this juncture, fogging seems to be good option and hence would love to get your expert advice. Thank you.
Fogging, if using pesticides, is, at best, incomplete. Assuming one is sampling arthropods, some species may not drop if they are ensconced in wood, under bark, etc. If a very small population is present, e.g.: only 1-4 specimens, they may not fall to the forest floor if the canopy is dense. Some insects will clutch surfaces upon poisoning, and may not drop for awhile. Also, life cycles come into play. Larvae may be in soil, muck, water, rotting logs or manure, while the adult phase may be arboreal.
Please check Claire Ozanne and Keith Day work on insects associated with the green spruce aphid. Fogging has been used and gave consistent results.
