Several factors could come in the way of teacher motivation such as low remuneration, lack of opportunities for professional development, inadequate support from stakeholders, discrimination, work pressure, etc. Hence, it is of utmost importance that teacher welfare is well taken care of to increase their motivation to keep going in their profession with maximum dedication, and social and professional commitment which would greatly contribute to the prospects of the learners' community.

I touched on this subject in my research on how instructional designers design to capture attention (ATTENTION-DRIVEN DESIGN: HOW INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNERS DESIGN

TO CAPTURE THE LEARNER’S ATTENTION) and found that teaching and learning without adequate motivation on the part of the teacher can be less effective compared to teaching with motivation. When a teacher lacks motivation, they may not be fully engaged in the teaching process, which can lead to a lack of enthusiasm, energy, and creativity in their lessons. This can make it difficult for students to stay engaged and motivated in the learning process, resulting in decreased learning outcomes.

However, it is important to note that effective teaching and learning is a two-way process, and the motivation of the students also plays a significant role. If students are highly motivated to learn, they may be able to overcome a teacher's lack of motivation to some extent. Therefore, it is important for both the teacher and the students to be motivated and engaged in the learning process for optimal outcomes.

In my opinion, teaching and learning processes are not effective without motivation on the part of the teacher, this is a key factor to encourage students not only to learn science, but even to study science and engineering careers in their future university.

There is no doubt that lack of motivation of the part of the teacher has negative impact on the teaching and learning process. However, the issue of teacher motivation is a broad subject that needs to be unpacked. For example, there many challenges that can undermine the motivation of teachers. These may include low salaries, incentives, bad working environment, lack of teaching aids and lack of interest on the teaching job to mention but a few. Looking at the multiplicity of these demotivating elements, I opine that most of the factors that demotivate teachers can be mitigated if the teacher remains focused at the job at hand. Teachers as classroom practitioners should be guided ethics that inform our work. Ethics in teaching demands that a teacher should separate personal issues from the job at, which is to facilitate the learning process. A student-centric teacher should subordinate their own challenges (the things that demotivate them) and strive to deliver lessons to the best of their ability as if they were motivated. I need to point out that teachers should understand that most of the factors that motivate or demotivate them are beyond the control of students. Therefore, students should not suffer for things that are beyond their control. In short, lack motivation on the part of teachers undermine the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process. However, the effect can be mitigated if the teacher remain student-centric by subordinating their on challenges to the job at hand. Teachers must understand that sources of the factors that demotivate them can be resolved outside the classroom.
