How does the vegetation sampling plot orientation matters in vegetation ecology ?

I am going work on the vegetation monitoring aspects in my next research project. however, I came to know that the sampling plot orientation should be in specific. Hence I am eager to the reason, why so?

I think one of the reason for that may be in future you can collect the data from same location but not sure.

Please help me to understand it.
