Secondary consumers were removed from a certain food chain; the primary consumers would increase in number, causing the producers to be consumed in much larger quantities. Also, the tertiary consumers would decrease in number because they would not have any food to feed on. Next are the secondary consumers, which eat primary consumers. Secondary consumers are mostly carnivores, from the Latin words meaning “meat eater.” In the Everglades, egrets and alligators are carnivores. They eat only other animals. If there are not enough secondary consumers, then tertiary consumers face starvation because they would no longer have a food supply. If there are too many secondary consumers, then they will eat more and more primary consumers until they are on the brink of extinction. Prevent felling of trees especially native plants or trees in a particular area. Reduce, recycle and reuse resources. Especially, reduce pollution and use of plastic bags and other materials that are potential threats for the environment. Use environment friendly products, segregate and dispose garbage correctly. (i) Protection of useful animals and plants in their natural habitat or in situ conservation. (ii) Preservation of critical habitats like feeding and breeding areas and resting area of endangered species to promote their growth and multiplication. (iii) Hunting should be banned or regulated. Declining biodiversity lowers an ecosystem's productivity and lowers the quality of the ecosystem's services.Leave critical wildlife habitat undisturbed, especially nesting and dinning sites. Promote wildlife use by setting up bird and bat houses. Eradicate and control introduced weeds on your property. Keep vehicles on main roads to reduce the spread of weeds and disturbance to wildlife. Biodiversity loss is caused by five primary drivers: habitat loss, invasive species, overexploitation (extreme hunting and fishing pressure), pollution, climate change associated with global warming. In each case, human beings and their activities play direct roles.
