Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), usually refers to a company's commitment to practice environmental and social sustainability and to be good stewards of the environment and the social landscapes in which they operate. CSR is a business commitment that contributes to corporate social sustainability. Corporate social sustainability works with employees, their families, local communities and society at large to improve human-life quality, the environment and the economy in the long-term. Environmental sustainability is usually a part of corporate social responsibility; CSR does not only focus on sustainability. For many companies, treating the environment well is important, and this value may be reflected in their CSR programs. CSR and sustainability are linked but not the same. CSR is a shorter-term reporting initiative whereas sustainability focuses on the future growth and survival of the business while supporting the environmental, social and economic elements that are reported on in CSR. Environmental responsibility refers to the organization's commitment to sustainability and environmentally friendly operations. Every year, more companies are prioritizing sustainable practices, pledging to consider their environmental impact at every stage of business.
The concept of sustainability is embedded in the foundations of CSR. One of the most popular models of Zadek /2001/ is Tripple Bottom Line - "People, Planet, Profit". The CSR philosophy is associated with companies generating profit while solving the current problems of stakeholders. The overall policy of companies engaged in CSR requires the implementation of activities and practices that do not disturb the well-being of future generations, i.e. sustainability in environmental protection is understood as an imperative. Let's look at the model of Katsoulakos & Katsoulakos /2006/, based on Archie Carroll's model. We will see that the top of the three-dimensional pyramid is occupied precisely by the responsibilities towards sustainability.
To me CSR and sustainability are the same. Giving back to environment in which the business operates is what CSR is about. The business must male provision to ensure they continue to operate without limitation and this is possible when the business contributes to ensure the environment is reinvigorated to ensure its continuity. This is in view of the fact business receive from the environment - raw materials, good weather, sunlight, rain, people (workers); and give to the environment product, waste, noise, etc. So there must be a balance of these two so that there will continuity of the business. Sustainability represents actions, initiatives, moves, deliberate or otherwise carried out by businesses to restore the environment for its continued or future use. CSR is the obligation the business owes to the society to contribute part of its earnings to those that suffer the impact of their activities. Thus there is a convergent of motives of the two - that is, continued existence of the business.
CSR is the best term for focusing on individual business organizations, “corporate sustainability” is an organization level environmental policy, “sustainable development” is a public policy, and “sustainability” is the broadest term encompassing global local and organizational levels. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) usually refers to a company's commitment to practice environmental and social sustainability and to be good stewards of the environment and the social landscapes in which they operate. Environmental sustainability is usually a part of corporate social responsibility; CSR does not only focus on sustainability. CSR activities are not only about social uplifting but also contribute immensely in terms of environmental protection as day to day activities of people increase the level of pollution which releases harmful toxicants. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the idea that a company should play a positive role in the community and consider the environmental and social impact of business decisions.
