Dear Oyedemi, I think that social and technological changes have an immediate impact on people who study. But it is not necessarily an optimal influence. Today we have exaggerated social impact from innovations in digitized society, because there are many networks (like Facebook) spreading that and because very young children learn faster how to click buttons in modern information devices (computers, smart phones, etc). At the same time, many scholars at different levels are ignorant about important discoveries in geo-sciences, psychology, biology and other fields, which are much more important for correct vision of the world.
