The following are the lines spoken by Ceres in Shakespeare play, The Tempest:
Here, Queen of highest state,
Great Juno comes; I know her by her gait.
In this context, how does Ceres observe the gait of Juno? Does she see her walking, or merely hears her footsteps?
So what can we infer from these quotes, Dibakar? Do you mean Ceres saw the walk at a distance and didn't make the inference from the sound of her footsteps?
1) Ceres is one of Prospero’s spirits representing the goddess of the harvest. She joins Juno. So, she (Ceres) see/hears her (Juno) walking!!
2) Does a goddess make noise when waking? If not, the question is solved.
3) I know her by her smell, means recognise on the basis of smell; I know her by her gait, means recognise on the basis ot gait, nobody can affirm wether this is done because of the sight or becouse of the sound
True, Dr. Cavallari. All the play stripts and story extracts I've ever read on The Tempest only states the speech lines and no narrative description of the scene. It is why had the question in the first place.
