I am considering my options and would like to continue in academia but my current job which is partially remote is ending and my family situation restricts my job locations to the Pacific Northwest. I am currently brushing up on programming like Python, R, and SQL for data science jobs but am having a hard time breaking into this field which is in high-demand.

I am afraid my PhD and academic background is hurting me. I do not need a large salary to be happy because I will not work crazy hours to try and climb some corporate ladder. I want to apply my expert problem solving skills and then go home and live my life with my family.
