One of my research papers entails the finding of potential mining locations of a certain halophilic species of bacteria. I ran a Non-Metric Multidimensional Scaling (NMDS) analysis and created a Contour Overlay Plot (as attached). As far as I know, the redder the gradient, the more likely it is to find the bacteria in that particular site.

Is this the correct interpretation of this graph? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
