Now a days we come across research topics selected for doctoral level research at various academic institutions seems quite frivolous in nature. Is it worth allowing such research?

I think we are so culturally programmed that we automatically try to deal with subjects useful for the society or our community. Regarding e-mail and internet opportunities the limits of our community have been enormously widened.
Knowledge should be pursued for its own sake and for what it is worth!
Especially countries in development process like Costa Rica.
But we need to allow that PhD research explore the needs of their own country

Unfortunately, universities often prefer the most common subjects and the leader professors do not like imaginative studies. However, the freedom of choosing PhD subjects should be remained.
