Please share your thoughts and advice on this engineering problem: the separation of carbon monoxide from a carbon monoxide-carbon dioxide gas mixture.
CO2 is an acid oxide thus it will react with bases forming carbonates. CO will not react it will dissolve in water as non-reactive gas. You can absorb CO2 on such sorbents as ascarite (sodium hydroxide-coated silica) and CO will be left in gas. Ascarite can be also applied to assess the amount of CO2 in gas by simple weighting before and after gas passing. Regards. Monika Fabiańska
