hello every one,
can any one sugest me the method to identify the type of carotenoid. i have taken the spectrum of the pigment, it has maximum absorbtion range at 457nM.i wnt to determine what kind of compound it is. i did GC MS. but the data is not good.
Use LC-MS its bettre than hplc for the identification especially with MS data, each peak with his molecular wight, So you will get an idea about which kind of copmound you have and also the structure if you use MS/MS fragmentaions
To identify unknown carotenoids one has to take HPLC for purity, UV,IR,PMR.CMR & theMass spectra of of the sample.

can you suggest me whether GC-MS is good option over LC - MS
HPLC in RP C30 is the better option. It´s able to separate carotenoids and their E Z isomers.
