In Europe, I use the key of Stephen Hopkin [A Key to the Woodlice of Britain and Ireland (1991) edited by Field Studies Council]. A more recent review (2009), published by the same editor, was done by Steve Gregory [Woodlice and Waterlice (Isopoda: Oniscidea & Asellota) in Britain and Ireland].

I hope these references may be useful for you even if you are based in Australia...

Look for the trapezoidal shape of the telson, coloration (dark grey color with yellow patches), margins are never white and the head has no significant middle lobe (compared with e.g. A. nasatum).

Are you collecting in Australia.

Because if yes, according to the Atlas of the Living Australia, A. vulgare is the only (introduced) species of the genus.

The second species of Armadellidae is seemingly restricted to Tasmania
