Exuse me, I have not dealt with this problem particularly. Maybe one way is a division of the quadriteral finite element to two triangular ones with bilinear shape functions.
There is a method of degenerating a triangular element from a quadrilateral element by collapsing nodes. In this method the shape functions are modified by introducing the constraint of displacement is the same in collapsed nodes. My problem is I don't know if the obtained triangular element having (3/6) shape function or (4/8) shape functions as the original quadrilateral has. Moreover I can't see how to do the numerical implementation.
