I am currently conducting research on the Hotel Property Management System regardless of brand and I would like to look for details of its history in the hospitality Industry.
You might want to begin your search with some of the folks over at Cornell University's Hotel Management and Hospitality program. They have one of the most established programs around. Richard Tas, a Professor in Hospitality and Tourism Management at North Texas University is also an excellent resource. You might also want to see if your library has a copy of the International Encyclopedia of Hospitality Management, by Taylor and Francis. That also is an excellent print resource for you to browse through.
Dear Christopher, in the book "Managing Front Office Operations" by M. Kasavana & R. Brooks, you can find the information you are looking for. In the 7th Edition that I've got, page 98 you can read about the Front Office Systems (evolution of record keeping systems) and in page 113 you'll be able to get information concerning the Property Management Systems.
I would refer to O'Connor publications from 90-ties.
O'Connor, P. (1999). Electronic Information Distribution in Tourism and Hospitality. CABI.
O'Connor, P., & Frew, A. (2003). An evaluation methodology for hotel electronic channels of distribution. International Journal of Hospitality Management , 179-199.
O'Connor, P. (2002). An empirical analysis of hotel chain online pricing strategies. Information Technology and Tourism (5), 65-72.
Murphy, J., Schegg, R., & Olaru, D. (2006). Investigating the evolution of hotel internet adoption. Information Technology & Tourism , 161-177
I summarized early stages of CRS and PMS adoption in hospitality in my book E-turystyka but it was alas in Polish.
Thank You for your responses Dr. Carswell, Dr. Kapiki, and Dr. Pawlicz.
Before anything else, I left my teaching vocation from January 2014 up to December 2015 where my initial research stopped. I returned to my part time teaching profession just last 6 January 2016 where I intend to resume my work. I am truly grateful for your suggestions and recommendations. These will help me greatly.
