I don't think it would be a case of running a simulation or finding a simulator that does that.

In fact this is your research, in my opinion, you should do it in practice, put a power meter connected to the CNC of your laboratory and see how much it consumes during the period of operation and when it is idle, that is, how much of energy he still uses when it’s not working, in fact the idle time he shouldn’t be consuming any electricity.

It may be that depending on CNC machine, size and manufacturer it may be that something is still connected. However, it seems very strange to me that this occurs.

Anyway, I think the research should be practical, and who knows if it gets interesting results, write a code to calculate energy consumption in CNC machines for example in a spreadsheet.

Because of COVID, we’re not allowed in the laboratories. It would’ve been much easier but now after looking and searching, I feel like a case study would be the most convenient.

About the idle time, yes it occurs in the industry between each job and it is a large amount of wasted energy.

Siemens "Process Simulate" software is able to simulate all industrial situations that research requires. You will need to have data that approximates the actual condition you want to simulate or use the data that the software itself provides. This software may help you.

Yes it's true! You cannot perform your practical research.

Yes is true! Some industrial machines are on all the time, but this is generally not the case with CNC, unless they need some kind of heating in cold countries.

However, in the case of CNC machines, I have a doubt that they need to be on all time and thus, I do not believe that they use electricity in idle periods, in end, they do not need to be turned on. Unless very large machines, which needs to be verified.

If so, is it possible for manufacturers to have given it in their catalogs? It is worth checking.

Hello, I have been involved with these machines for years and the machine tool manufacturer's have ALL the data. Just call the sales/engineering department for specs of any CNC.

Manufacturers have to plan ahead for resources when installing these machines. They all consume kw for spindles, axis drives, and controls.
