Can you do it with Traditional Ecological Knowledge among people that are herdsmen or hunters? Do you know any researcher or read any articles about this topic?
I think that climate changes can promote at the first stage little changes in the forage plants used in the diet of the reindeer/caribou, and in the advantage stages the species must be forced to modified the space use, will need migrate to other areas never used... I don't know. I hope that field biologists in north hemisphere has thinking about that, and call atention for that, like you.
Please see this reference: http://www.unesco.org/mab/doc/mys/2008/FinalRep_china.pdf
It is a 25 pages report entitled (The relationship between the biodiversity conservation and the traditional beliefs of the native people in Dalai Lake Biosphere Reserve).
It should indeed be possible to do this with "Traditional Ecological Knowledge" and I see the need to have such a project started, one path to get ask for interested persons is to go via the administrators for Reindeer husbandry matters such as R. Doj and others in our Sami parliaments.
