In my research work, I am working on proposing a routing protocol for wireless sensor network. I am using composite routing metrics where primary routing metrics would be remaining energy and secondary routing metrics would be ETX(Expected Transmission Count). But the problem is, both of them have different unit of calculation and is to be normalized so that they can be measure in the same equation. Can anyone give me some insights regarding this issue or suggest me some research works regarding this matter. Thank you in advance for your kind co-operation.

Adding to the colleague Anatol, you can relate the number of transmission count to the the remaining energy. This can be accomplished by computing the energy efficiency of the system in bit rate divided by the power consumption. This will be in bits per joule.
In this way you can relate the routing of the two systems.

You can normalize it the way any equation is normalized by multiplying/dividing by some constant C whose units are the exact inverse.
Then you will have a dimensionless quantity which you seek.
