As I see it, we can motivate demotivated students to learn English by showing them that, for example, when they master of English they can exchange messages with colleagues and frends all over the world. We can also show them that when they learn English they can socialize with many people around the word. To learn English is also an opportunity to get a job in countries other than our own country. To learn English is also as opportunity to get more information and knowledge. In a nutshell, we can proffit a lot, physically and psychologically, from learning English because English is nowadays a kind of universal language.

Dear Vahid,

That's a forever interesting topic.

Speaking strictly based on experience working with schools I keep recognizing some patterns. One - Kid's motivation quite rarely correlates with the actual usefulness of the skill. In other words if they are in a place where they aren't ready to learn, all the facts in the world about how useful it would be may not change it.

Secondly, working with teens experiencing difficulties I keep noticing that more often than not, they lose interest because they have fallen behind. Now as they want to catch up, they find it too hard. And since usually unmotivated teens have self-worth issues, rather than try and fail, they don't try, so they don't have to face the fact that they can't. In other words a lot of times people don't try because they don't want to break their self image by trying and failing.

So if I were to give an advice from this, I'd say try to find tasks which could put them on "flow", it may be from a curriculum few years back, but let them feel powerful and successful in their learning.

Obviously it's easier said than done. :) Still wanted to give this point of view.

I would recommend e learning and blogs.They could share experiences of holidays,funny moments,scary stories,legends and films.They can experience new cultures and also may become curious

Interest is a good driver in learning. Don't get them bored. Read and discuss everything that does matter for the students: actual topics of everyday life, some new discoveries in Sci-Tech, histories, geographic adventures, etc.

I strongly agree with that.I am pro to John Dewey's concept of praxis. The best thing is to include theory aspect with examples.Even in entertainment is is needed critical reasoning
