We are encouraging students to join MOOCs.Our students are deaf or have limited hearing. So we are planning to attend the course along with them to discuss their doubts after the sessions. We would like to study the effectiveness of the MOOc in them. What method should be followed?

Researchers on MOOCs are using "Learning Analytics" to assess otucomes. It is a sophisticated way of managing massive volumes of data through computer support. You may want to try it, since it is a new way of doing research Actually, there are some MOOCs that train people on how work with learning analytics.

Perhaps you could start by identifying some more specific elements of the learners' experiences you would like to study. Is it specifically the progression of their doubt from beginning to end?

You would want to look at the retention, success and other rates to start with. I would also suggest looking at a competency testing model. Pre-post testing works too.

Hi Raji, really is difficult measure the quality of a MOOC, if you bring the classic point of view from theory and methodology educational. I think that the MOOC phenomen is not matter of only courses, is another thing. Is about the simultaneous process of learning and creating of knowledge (New learning trend, like that wrote Burbules, 2012, and Cope&Kalantzis 2010). Also, is about the break of classical curriculum structure, so, allowing thinking new categories like microlearning, or nanolearning(Hug,2005). On another level, the linking process of collaborative learning (Downes 2008-2015) Finally, I think that in the MOOC, is not possible thinking in a leaving early rate from learners because the interesting points are different. This, has been analyzed by CROSS (2013) in the evaluation of the MOOC: "Open Learning Design Studio".
HI Raji, also include evaluations of the accessibility features that the MOOCs course and MOOCs platforms offer for your students disabilities. There are automated tools that help to establish the level of compliance with WCAG 2.0. Good luck!
