In Sub-Saharan African, grinding-milling machines are still very popular. They are used to grind pepper, tomatoes, and beans, among other things. The milling-grinding machines are equipped with grinding plates made of cast iron that works and wears as a result of friction between the two plates facing each other during the grinding process. This results in wearing of the plates and may contaminate food products, hence the need for wear-resistant material to be used on grinding plates.
What about using Austembered Ductile Iron "ADI"?
It is very good at resisting wear.
The shape of graphite and also the matrix hardness have significant effect on the wear resistance of cast irons. Please specify the type of cast iron you meant and also if you have any data regarding the microstructure.
Do You have any preferences in materials? I mean cast iron or something close to or something totaly different. It can be used ADI, sferoidal cast iron, different type of cast steel or composed cast material or bimetal or ceramics. Everything depend on money.
White Cast Iron is the most popular material for the grinding disk. The choice of material should be the most cost effective.

Ordinary Cast Iron grinding plates will wear out faster when the
material to be ground is harder. Generally, alloyed cast iron plates are recommended for wear applications, the alloying element beibg Chromium. ADI is definitely
far better than alloyed cast iron but costly because of its heat treatment.
Ni Hard is another material in the alloyed CI family and TYPE4 NI HARD IS
recommended for wear and impact resistant applications. Hadfield Mn. steel
is a work hardening type of material alternate to Ni Hard. You can also think of
Low Cr. Mn steel which are generallt used in flor mills.Feel free to contact me.

If you have any picture of alement and drawing send me [email protected] . I will show it to my coleage working in foundrys. But prices in Poland and Nigeria will be totaly different. As for the hadfield cast steel in Poland we use them for example in mills in cement plant, and prison bars ;-). As a material with high wera resiste it is very good.
Coatings? Plasma spray, flame spray... With las cladding you can apply a coating, repair the coating and repair the grinding disk.
