This is a relevant question in this era of the digital citizens. Personally, I think there are positive effects as well as negative effects. Virtual Social Media enables students to share information with their peers in real time across geographical bounderies. They can share and compare materials with other students from other universities on the global arena. Virtual social media enables the students to coalese on a topic, discuss it and exhaust it.
There are also disadvantages because virtual environments by nature have their intrinsic weaknesses. Trust , consumes a lot of time because it is addictive in nature, misleading information.
