In a brick and mortar University that offers online courses, there are some significant benefits. One is that students who live on campus for 9 months of the year but not for the summer break, can take an online course. In Minnesota, USA, living at the lake during the summer is an important part of the culture. Students are able to continue their connection with nature living with online courses. Also, for working students, by taking some in person courses and some online course--this allows for greater flexibility with working while attending school.
The goal of improving the quality of higher education is to bring different forms of study closer to content. Based on my own experience, I know it is possible. But only with motivated teachers, technically talented teachers using electronic tools appropriate for a specific subject on the sustained LMS platform, but especially with the necessary institutional sup-port of top management.

The paper is a demonstration of the best practice of e-learning in the subject of Quantitative methods for managers in the daily and external forms of study done by the attendance, distance and combined methods of education. This paper describes the system of work while applying the most demanding subject in Moodle. The course is intended for both students of the day-to-day full-time study method and for students studying via a distance method. The platform of the subject is also used by students of both branches of the School of Management - in Trenčín and Bratislava.
Distance learning has some advantages associated with it. It becomes very apt for small island state like Fiji, where small islands are scattered over vast spans of ocean and the village setting and remoteness of certain areas makes daily travel to universities an issue. Having enrolled in distance learning would enable the learners to stay in their local environment while giving them the opportunity to fulfill their study requirement.
Vishnu Sharma Great point about distance learning being a benefit to rural dwellers. I was wondering if the internet is widely accessible in Fiji. In the United States, we have vast rural areas in which internet is not available. For example, in parts of the midwestern USA ranches and farms may be 50 by 50 miles in size with very little amenities such as internet. This makes it difficult for distance learning via internet. I am curious if this is the case in Fiji or other.
Nancyruth Leibold madam, we also have the same issue in Fiji. Many of our small isolated islands do not have internet access some which do have these facilitates have intermittent connectivity of only certain point where they can get connectivity.
Basically Fiji consist of 300 islands of which 2 are the major ones. there are few other smaller ones like Taveuni, Kadavu, Lau and the Yasawas which ave intermittent connectivity. However other smaller islands which does not have telecommunication infrastructure in its vicinity has no connectivity. But the good part is that the government is working to ensure that these areas also get connected.
Distance education can be a double edged sword. It can be a way for instructors to provide more educational opportunities. It is great for students in remote areas or students that work and have other life obligations.
The other side is that students see distance education as both flexible and condensable. Often, students choose to complete all available course assignments in a very short time. For example, taking the weekend to study. This results in a higher completion rate and may even result in higher grades. However, it does not force students to take the time needed to actually absorbed the information learned. Students could be memorizing rather than understanding. The good grades could reflect good memory rather than comprehension.
