1. Choose the routine that suits yourself best: PhD is really flexible and choose the best time to conduct your research, could be in the morning, afternoon or even after midnight;
2. Keep your own pace: Don't be kicked back by your peers' amazing progress. You are not conducting the same project as them. This is extremely important for you students who work in social science. You may be a bit slow at the beginning but trust me you will catch up quickly a bit later.
3. Don't pursue perfect outcomes, such as a publication on a high-impact journal or a big finding, but enjoy the research process.
