How can one distinguish between the second Harmonic generation from the film and the substrate?

Second Harmonic generation from the centrosymmetric molecules is not possible but if we have a material which is having non zero susceptibility and is on a substrate with non zero susceptibility too. So , How one can distinguish between the signal from both ?
