If water is clear (ie, low turbidity), you might try green LiDAR to help define. If the sediment has a lot of silt and especially clay particles that remain in suspension, this would not work. I don’t know how difficult it might be to calibrate to your conditions. I may still have and if found send an article or two on this and most of them are relative to stream channel morphology.
